Climate change: The real but hidden issue

Somebody once said that every seemingly good cause transformed into a business and ultimately degenerated into a racket. They could have shortened it by saying that every seemingly good cause becomes a religion. And that’s what the whole green movement is beginning to look like to me.

Anyone who disputes their dogma is howled down, children are brainwashed and inconvenient truths (as we saw with the University of East Anglia) simply ignored.

Nigel Lawson had a ‘denial’ book ‘Appeal To Reason’ turned down by almost every publisher. One of the world’s leading experts on polar bears was banned from the Copenhagen shakedown jamboree because he wasn’t singing from the approved hymn sheet. It also seems to gel perfectly with the whole intolerant peecee multiculti secular religion in having its main target the evil white men in ‘the West’.

Now where have we seen that kind of thing before?

I genuinely have – or had - an open mind. The planet is indeed warming up, but I don't know if it’s doing so dangerously, or whether man is responsible. My suspicions are strongly aroused though when contra evidence is forced from the public domain. And I seem to remember that we were being warned by scientists about thirty years ago that we were due to perish from a new ice age.

But of course there’s a second agenda – one that goes nicely with demonizing the evil West. And that is the shakedown from the ‘less well-developed nations’ - the usual parasites to you and me.

Listen to Ethiopian Prime Minister Meles Zenari on his system in which rich countries would provide money to poor ones to help deal with the effects of climate change. ...

“Zenawi said he would accept $30 billion in the short term [isn't that generous of him?], rising to $100 billion by 2020. ... This was seen as a key concession by developing countries, which had previously spurned that figure ... as too low.”

Ah yes, Ethiopia.

Here’s its recent population history

1975 - 32.2 million.

1990 – 51.7 million

2008 - 80,713,434

That’s right folks, the population (remember that word) has more than doubled in thirty years.

And here’s what this population growth leads to

As the population increases, more and more land is deforested and over-farmed. Forest coverage has declined from 40 percent 75 years ago to only 3 percent today. People must travel farther and farther to find firewood, the principal fuel, which reduces time spent farming. Without firewood, many resort to burning animal dung, instead of using it to fertilize their depleted soil. Without trees to help hold it in place, the soil erodes from the steep highlands. As a result, many previously habitable areas have now been transformed into dry lands and deserts.

This vicious cycle exacerbates the effects of Ethiopia’s droughts, leading to severe and ever more frequent crises. The 2003 famine affected more than 13 million people, and at least 6 million people now suffer from permanent food insecurity. But drought is not entirely to blame: Ethiopia “faces famine when we have a bumper harvest and when we have drought” since the amount of arable land per person is so low (1/2 hectare for 8 people).

And that's it. That's the solution. If the ‘poor nations’ stopped breeding like rabbits (said rabbits, of course, fed by the evil white men in the West) most environmental problems would be solved automatically. It's obvious. Out of control population growth is what’s causing the forests to be cut down, wildlife wiped out, water resources to be used up and seas polluted. As well of course millions unable to feed themselves.

But the ‘P’ word never gets mentioned in all this hysteria, does it? Of course not, because to do so would divert the blame to where it lies. For the true believers who want to add another nail in the West’s coffin there’d be no joy, and for the green carpetbaggers there’s be no money.

So settle in for a long struggle.

Water is the big issue, and population growth is directly and inextricably linked to it. Even the UN has acknowledged this. The best aid the west could give is for birth control enablement, in all it's forms.

You all know the Maya from pre-Columbian Central America, right? These are the folks who deemed necessary human scrifices on top of a pyramid in order to satisfy their sun god and consequently reap a good corn harvest.

I wonder what the Maya would have to say if a traveller told them about a "land, far to the east, beyond the water. The people there have invented many wonderful contraptions, such as 'cars' which move them around without drag animals and 'electricity' which makes their 'round candles' burn forever. But now the people there have decided that they need to abandon all their 'cars' and 'round candles' or else the earth goddess Gaia will be angry and punish them with heat and floods."

The Maya would probaby have said: "What superstitious fools. To have invented all these marvelous things and now abandon them for some goddess which doesn't even exist. Good thing we are rational and don't engage in such tomfoolery."

I can't shake the feeling that "climate change" will indeed be at the center of a new religious cult. I has already begun.

There are people who have trouble getting throught the alphabet or counting to 100 who will tell you with complete conviction that carbon emmissions will kill us all if we don't sacrifice some light bulbs. When you ask them for the grounds of that belief, they can only answer: "Because it is so. What?! Are you a Denier?"

This scares me.

Piet said...

And Ethiopia is in the news again. Youl never guess - a new famine on the way.

Piet said...

Yeah, CC deniers are in the same category as Holocaust Deniers. If the evidence is so strong why try to close off discussion?

This is no surprise, mainly because I've read it before. But for those that haven't, its just another excuse for them (the 'noble' savages) to hold out the begging bowl. Its no different to when they demand 'compensation' for Colonialism - a humanitarian act compared to what they go through from their own 'people'.

On the climate change issue. Yes, the climate is changing! Thats quite obvious. But is it the natural way, or did the blue-eyed devils cause it? When I was younger I read an account from Jan Van Riebeek (so-to-say Dutch founding father of South Africa). He described the Western Cape where Cape Town is located as a place with a mild and temperate climate, perfectly suited for Europeans who are used to that type of weather. 360 years later we have summers with days of 35+ degrees, and winters where the days are almost always in the double digits. 180 years before Van Riebeek, Bartholomeu Dias, the Portuguese explorer (in 1488) called this same place Cabo das Tormentas, the Cape of 'Torment'/Storms because of the vicious weather there. In the last 50 years the storms we've had cannot even compare to those of the 14/1500's. I suppose the appropriate term is 'climate reversion', because even as schoolchildren know, climates are cyclical. Yes, we should recycle. No we must not pollute the air, soil or water. And yes, sustainable energy is the natural way to go, not only because it reduces pollutants, but because oftentimes it is free, reducing our reliance on the governing 'system'. These are logical. The Copenhagen and Kyoto meetings did nothing but blame the civilised and attempt to extort money for the 'underprivileged' (repetition from the above article, I know). Not once was a concrete solution to the perceived problem explored. A bit of waffling about green-energy and hybrid cars, but by and large no solutions. What can we expect though, from the One-world-ers.

Piet said...

Yes, and when the blue-eyed devils did their bidding and started using ethanol as a repleacement for oil they parasites were up in arms again. This time because it was driving up the cost of food for the vast over-populated hell-holes they've created for themselves. The only thing their interested in is the wite man's money, which they'll then lodge in their private off-shore accounts.

@ Martinus

If the CC crowd was rational, historical references such as yours would get them to rethink some of their beliefs.

If logic prevailed, that thing called "Medieval Warm Period" alone would cause AGW theories to crumble - unless you were willing to argue that medieval peasants were eating too much meat and the flatulence of their oxen and pigs caused the climate to change.

No, logic is clearly not the issue here. The issue is religion. Most adherents to the climate change cult are self proclaimed intelectuals who deem themselves too hip and edgy for Catholicism, Protestantism or Islam. So they created an ersatz-religion to fulfill their spiritual urges.

The new religion is clearly polytheitic, since its followers worship not only cc but also the god of "diversity" - much like the ancient Romans divided their attention between Jupiter, Mars et al.

The adherents of the new religion can't be reasoned with. The only thing that will ever bring them to their senses will be a prolonged electricity outages during which opportunistic black thugs invade their homes, steal their valuables and rape their daughters.

And even that might not be sufficient an exorcism to make the hard core believers see the light.

The climate may well be changing,I don't know and I can't say that I care. What I do know is that last December(I live just outside Dublin in County Kildare),my outdoor temperature gauge gave a reading one morning at 6am of -21C.Not much if you live in Siberia or North Dakota, but believe me,in mild, temperate Ireland, this was a phenomenally low temperature.A ground reading yes but the air temperature was -18.

I'll put up with bit of warming thank you.

Too true folks. I have always been interested in strange facts and historical oddities (rather like Michael Caine, who has written several books on the subject).

One of those embarrassing little oddities was the Little Ice Age--

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Little_Ice_Age

--In which the wine actually froze on the tables of Versailles during the reign of Louis XIV, and ...

"Canals and rivers in Great Britain and the Netherlands were frequently frozen deeply enough to support ice skating and winter festivals.

The first River Thames frost fair was in 1607; the last in 1814, although changes to the bridges and the addition of an embankment affected the river flow and depth, hence diminishing the possibility of freezes. The freeze of the Golden Horn and the southern section of the Bosphorus took place in 1622.
In 1658, a Swedish army marched across the Great Belt to Denmark to invade Copenhagen.
The Baltic Sea froze over, enabling sledge rides from Poland to Sweden, with seasonal inns built on the way.
The winter of 1794-1795 was particularly harsh when the French invasion army under Pichegru could march on the frozen rivers of the Netherlands, while the Dutch fleet was fixed in the ice in Den Helder harbour.
In the winter of 1780, New York Harbor froze, allowing people to walk from Manhattan to Staten Island. Sea ice surrounding Iceland extended for miles in every direction, closing harbors to shipping.**

**From Wikipedia.

A little global warming suits me just fine thanks .. considering that there were big panics in the sixties about the ice age that would engulf us all by 1995.

Is America Ready for the Return of National Offend a Feminist Week?

http://tiny.cc/j77sw

Yes, it’s true: The third annual celebration begins Monday, May 2, and I’ve begun preparing for the occasion by accumulating vintage images of happy housewives from the Dark Ages of Patriarchal Oppression. Nothing so offends a feminist as the idea that somewhere there might be a woman who considers it an honor and privilege to be “Just a Mom.”

Marriage, motherhood, housekeeping, domesticity — these are the great evils of the Dark Ages of Patriarchal Oppression from which feminists are so proud to have rescued American women.

To be unmarried and childless is the feminist ideal of liberation from male-dominated heterosexist tyranny. “Feminism is the theory; lesbianism is the practice,” as Ti-Grace Atkinson once boldly proclaimed. However, understanding that some women may not be able to attain the sterile nirvana of lesbianism, feminists have encouraged heterosexual women to pursue anti-family practices such as cohabitation, promiscuity, unwed motherhood and divorce.

Spread the word. This could be fun.

Back in the (SPECIFICALLY NON-PC) 70's, world over-population was considered a very serious matter.

The most serious matter of all, in fact.

So then, why in the last 35 years, or so, has population growth been relegated to the not-overly-important category of dooms-day messages? Quite simply, we lived (in the West) in non-pc times back then but, now, in a dreadfully stifling pc world, where the truth just won't do, by contrast we now live in the world of the evil White man and all his evil doings.

If the Whites were breeding like rabbits, then rest assured, we would hear no end of the doom and gloom facing us from overpopulation. As it is, though, this is not the case, but rather our duskier brethrens have decided to emulate the rodents of the Earth and, well, take zero responsibility for their actions. Actually, I'm not having a go at poor people who know no better, but rather the edumacated race-hustlers who like nothing better than pointing a leprosy-diseased finger at the West. Screw them!!

Now, all said and done, I would rather keep an open mind about man-made global warming (as I would about overpopulation), but this much I reckon for a fact - if the darkies of the Earth were to be shown to be primarily responsible for global-warming then, rest assured, the whole issue would be dropped like a ton of bricks!

Environmentalism -- as opposed to conservation -- is a variation on "anti-racism".

The niggers the environmentalist wants to save from the evil white man's magic are snails and dolphins and shit.

From a marketing point of view it makes total sense, in that pelicans and dolphins are much more attractive as niggers than real niggers.

That's why environmentalism supplanted conservation when it did.

First the niggers entered the neighborhoods, schools, and universities.

Then the professors started loving pelicans.

Truth is, the average temperature of Earth through it's history since life began is 22c, and now it is at 14c. So we have some way to go before we make average again. Of course, that won't happen until this Ice Age is finished. Yes, you heard right, this is just another interglacial period in the current Ice Age which cannot end until Antarctica has left the South Pole. It could be a while, unless Liberal Marxists can make it vanish by passing laws denying it's existence. They could attach it to the Equality Act.

With regard to the well timed demise of OBL/Emmanuel Goldstein, I would like to make a practical observation.

This morning all commodity and PM markets have been severely raided and the Dollar has rallied somewhat. Supposedly this is because all geopolitical risk has been removed and all is bliss in the world now thanks to godking Obama.

As I type this I debate with myself whether to take the buying opportunity now or wait a couple of days/weeks until the optimism-reverse rally falters.

Possibly they can extend the current elation for weeks on end until they put the corpse of OBL on display in DC a la Vercengetorix in Rome.

I am reasonably sure that while the masses obediently look at the one hand brandishing OBL's scalp, the OTHER hand will move to put some fairly unpopular measures in place.

The nine knaves assemble themselves under the banner of the most knavish among them, and become 'politicians'; the wise man stands out, because he knows himself to be hopelessly outnumbered, and devotes himself to poetry, mathematics, or philosophy; while the ninety fools plod off under the banners of the nine villains, according to fancy, into the labyrinths of chicanery, malice and warfare."

Preparing for Ragnarök

http://gatesofvienna.blogspot.com/

Predicting the future is a difficult exercise.

The City of God was written by Augustine of Hippo soon after the city of Rome was sacked by the Visigoths in AD 410. This shocked him and his contemporaries, yet he apparently did not understand that he was watching the death of an entire civilization. Augustine himself died while the Vandals were about to sack his city.

The Scottish economist Adam Smith published his The Wealth of Nations in 1776 during the early stages of the Industrial Revolution in Britain, yet he did not see this world-historical transformation coming.

Augustine and Smith were both very smart men, but even they could not foresee the near future or understand the full force of changes that was underway in their own lifetimes.

As I've said once before, we may differ on how we got here, but we're pretty much agreed on where we are.

BBC questioned in Mail over Global Warming "support"

A few weeks ago, I listened to an eloquent speech by the Czech president Vaclav Klaus, who spent much of his life under the ideological yoke of communist repression.

Now he saw old patterns re-emerging: ‘The arrogance with which global warming activists and their media allies express themselves is something I know well from the past.’

The attempt to insist on an iron ‘consensus’ was undermining democracy and free debate.

Running through the Jones Review is a bizarre and anti-scientific assumption: that there is an orthodox scientific truth which the BBC should strive to reflect, and which – at least in the case of global warming – is no longer subject to revision.

As a scientist of four decades’ standing, Jones surely knows this to be false. Science is a process, not revealed dogma, and indeed, Jones’s Review even describes the way in which almost 100 years ago the laws of Newtonian physics were suddenly swept aside by Einstein, relativity and quantum mechanics.

Yet when it comes to climate, he seems to want BBC coverage to be subject to the kind of quasi-Stalinist thought-policing to which Klaus so strongly objects. To let that come to pass would be to confirm the Czech president’s worst misgivings.

Are warmists so vain that they have decided that they have come up with a contribution as greta to science as Einstein because they have not come up with naything in their own?

For example, Jones is a biologist but now decides that he knows climatology?

Speaking of scientific vanity Stephen Jay Gould starred in The Simpsons in an episode when he admitted he had not done the work he claims to have done
