I'm sure he will be subjected to savage abuse from people egged on by journalists - and not just from the tabloids. I have no sympathy for paedophiles but it occurs to me that journalists who make false allegations of child abuse usually get away scot free.

In 1999 the guy who is currently Religious Affairs correspondent of the Irish Independent wrote a book claiming that Archbishop McQuaid was a paedophile. (He was a previous RE correspondent for the Irish Times.) Not a single reputable historian regards this as credible. In the same year the CURRENT RE correspondent for the Irish Times wrote an article claiming that boys were killed by the Christian Brothers in Artane - NO boy died at the time in question. He could not be sued either because the "killer' was as non-existent as the "victims".

ONE reason for the hysteria about child abuse is that children are being sexualised by society and the media anyway. Rather than deal with that issue, the media prefer to demonise Paul Gadd - or slander unpopular persons or groups.

OK present company not included in this diatribe!

Not sure how much i agree with this. But certainly the whole child abuse redress scheme has been grossly abused - not just in financial terms, but many innocent men tarnished as a means of getting at the loot.
